Know trees🌳
Me in nature (also hi Simon and Winona)
know trees 🌳
Hi Beautiful people
Someone asked me last week why I always include pictures of natures + my hikes in the emails. I didn't have an answer, I don’t know! It's a nice thing to look at, I usually take a photo of my hikes, and I like to share those things with you.
I feel really close to myself in nature. In a year where I want to SCREAM ALL THE TIME™️ being in nature feels like a salve. I can’t really think of anything else except putting one foot in front of the other, not tripping over rocks, or slipping on defrosting rivers. I started listening to a dendrology (tree science!) podcast and I do my best at ID trees as they start to bud.
Learning about plant life around you feels like really SEEING the world around you. I walk down the street and see maple trees, and ponderosa pines instead of the blobs lining the street around me.
Knowing what you see, to see yourself, to feel close to yourself, feels so healing.
I've spent most of my life feeling like I stick out because of how I dress, or how I act, or how I am loud etc. But learning and understanding myself, to know myself allows me to grow. To show up with all I have got, in class, in newsletters, in friendships, in activism, to be seen, as powerfully and honestly as the Lodgepole Pine, reminds me that I can grow in my own weird way. I am here.
Plants resources to know more about you and the Earth around you
Knowing what you see to see yourself, to be yourself. AHHH a TONIC. Registration for "How to be a freak" is still open. What my freak self is (wearing leopard print looking through a loop crouched down on the side walk looking at moss) is gonna look different to what your freak self looks likes. But we will learn and discover how we want to be freaks of the earth, together through sewing. We meet for two Saturdays to connect, learn, grow and sew. Saturday April 24th and 11am - 12:30pm EST and Saturday May 1st 12pm-1:30pm EST. Recording of tutorials will be sent out the day after as-well to watch back 🥰
OKAY HANG IS THISSATURDAY! Our beautiful artist in residence O.Z Sanders will be exploring world building as a sanctuary?! Like if this ain't the Okay Hang version running into the woods to be one with the moss and chill I don't know WHAT IS?! 👅Link available to all portal patrons, we meet on Saturday at 11am EST.
I love you all
thanks for being here
