Sitting in a cafe is the sure fire way for me to get a lot of good deep work done. But I have the hardest time getting to the cafe. It feels foolish and a waste of time and money and every “this is why millennials cant buy houses” article rings through my head.
I love hitting send and hate proofreading. The hardest lesson I have had to learn as an artist in business is deciding what idea to follow. Unfortunatly for my sag sun/moon not all ideas I need to act on now. Not all ideas need to be followed now. I can trust myself that my ideas will be there when I need them. Or as my friend
reminds me, deciding what worm hole to fall into how we decided what is the art.Walking is where writing happens. By trees and lakes. Not in front of the computer. Someone tattoo this on my forehead, i’ll tattoo it on yours after.
Every time I hit a goal post, something I designed, a marker to reach. I feel small for even hitting the goal post. Comparison isn’t something we just stop doing. It isn’t just the “thief of joy” it stops us from tying. If art is a mirror I think our phones are portals to other timelines where we are less than. I feel fine in my life until I pick up the phone to scroll, even when I am objectively “winning”. I think the answer is connection, not projection. The objects in my phone are more 3d than they appear.
Let’s call things what they are, lets not simplify for the sake of packaging our emotions up for someone else to understand. We are not perfectionists, we are told there is a certain presentation needed in order to be better. To win. These are tenants are white supremacy, the things we vote, protest, rail against. Not something to uphold in our art, not something to hit ourselves and each other over the head with. Resist. Creativity is the answer out of this hell scape. Magical thinking. Alternative timelines. Not route answers. Not binary. Resist.
TONIGHT! Join a community of people creating, together.
Our first community gathering on substack is here!
We’re chatting about PERFECTIONISM (🤢🧌👹😵💫) How we “get over it”, ways it comes up and stops us from making our art, not feeling so fucking alone in creation.
We’ll be starting with 15 min of journaling, a short lesson with me (Phoebe!) and then open discussion + group coaching. 60 min total. 60 minutes of being together. 60 min of being seen, together. 🪄 (yes recording is available!)
Bring nothing but your sweet self, we’ll have a notion work book to move through but if you prefer good ole fashion pen and paper bring that! Join us while your cooking, painting, knitting etc. There is no “perfect” or “right” way to show up 😉
Monthly subscribers get access to locked essays, community events and new incoming feedback thread. A subscribers only chat 📱

Thanks for reading the Creators Dispatch. A weekly essay about the creative journey! Here I write about being an artist, human, angry woman on the internet and living in the dumpster fire of a world that says not to make your art. If what I say here inspires you (or pisses you off 🥰) share my work with the group chat, or your best friends neighbour. Word of mouth is the most special and radical way of sharing – plus it helps put the Zuck 🏄♂️ out of business 👼
*typos are left to reflect the fury passion and 3D humaness of being a passionate freak in the world – and you know not a robot *beep boop* I am just a human girlie living on earth with a mortal brain 🤸♀️
Thirsty for more? I deeply believe in paying artists for their work and the work art/content we consume (think modern day patron!). To be cohesive with my values I allow readers to pay for the work I create here. If you love my writing, get value and resource from it consider becoming a paid subscriber! Paid subscribers get access to more of my writing and *new* monthly community events!
"Sitting in a cafe is the sure fire way for me to get a lot of good deep work done. But I have the hardest time getting to the cafe." This is so relatable!
