There is something of a timeline collapsing worm hole that you enter when the creation of a thing begins. I feel I can duck in and out of it, or sometimes I am pushed out of the flow like a fish that falls out of the current. Creation pulls me into its flow and kicks me out just as swiftly. Only when I come up for air do I ever realize how long I have been at it. Noting how long something has been marinating is longer or shorter than I anticipated, but it is also always right on time.
For the last year I have been writing a book and when I sat down to work at it the other day I thought – this isn’t it. And immediately something new began to take shape. A new thread to be pulled and pulled, a new current to enter, the jet stream carrying me from one idea to the next but just as deeply enveloped as ever before. And I am ok with that. Because I trust where the current leads and only because I have spent a long time trying on that trust and retreating to familiar currents when the new one feels too cold, too fast, just not right.
There is a therapy idea I use in somatic coaching. Titration: The exposure of a certain amount of trauma in small ways. The idea is that with enough safety generates enough freedom. But only if we have that safety can we feel free. Like a ballon tied to an anchor. And I so believe this practise I use in somatic coaching allows for the freedom. Limitations breed creativity.
Here is the thing about choosing to follow the stream. We have got to get real about these limitations. We need to sit in the muck. We cannot evangelize or hold “good” or “bad” up next to current hoping or project exploration or making the desisons that the thing we’re working on isn’t the right fit. Right now.
Because of course it feels ass awful.
It is antithetical to the society we live in. Living a creative life it is inherently beyond the binary and that pushes against the grain, and it can feel so exhausting. No business bro, marketing strategy or “buy this to solve all your problems” tik tok is going to be the thing to make a difference. We need to sit in the muck. We need to honour our unique brain space and feelings that come with it.

WHAT COULD YOU 🌱CREATE🪄 IF YOU STARTED SOLVING FOR JOY?
Application are now open. I have so excited to bring this new way to work with me into my coaching practise. It blends all the needed bits together to craft our paths in and out of the streams we want to slip into and out of, all while feeling really fucking sure of those gut feelings and tickles of “hell yah”.
AND! This is something I have been ruminating and crafting for much longer than I intended, but because I allow for the current to carry me where it goes it is finally here. And it is right on time.
